Big bands associations of Jim McNeely: Jim McNeely began writing for Carnegie Hall Jazz Band in 1993. Four years later, the group recorded an arrangement he wrote of "Sing, Sing, Sing" on The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band/Music Director Jon Faddis (Blue Note). That arrangement brought McNeely an individual 1997 Grammy Award nomination for Best Arrangement on an Instrumental. The 17-piece group, sponsored by Carnegie Hall in New York, is categorized as a repertoire orchestra, but is nurturing a growing reputation for playing cutting-edge arrangements that explore standards and other familiar music within fresh settings. McNeely frequently is commissioned to compose works for the group. |
