Jazz Ensemble debuts McNeely original at 2001 IAJE
[Spring 2001] The award-winning Eastman Jazz Ensemble had the
chance to "strut its stuff" at the 2001 International Association
of Jazz Educators (IAJE) Conference held in January in New York City.
The ensemble, directed by Fred Sturm, performed twice at the 28th
annual conference. In the second performance, the ensemble
presented a conference main stage set of manuscript works for jazz
ensemble — including three "first U.S. performances" by jazz
composers Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, and Vince Mendoza.
